Women's Soccer Earns First Win with Shutout

Longview, TX - The University of Dallas women's soccer team won their first game of the season on Monday.  UD's victory came on the road against LeTourneau University by the score of 2-0.

Through the first half both teams remained scoreless.  The Crusaders did, however, put pressure on LeTourneau, outshooting the Yellowjackets 9-2 in total shots and 4-2 in shots on goal.  Dallas also picked up more fouls, 3-1, and had the only corner kick of the half.

Dallas got on the board early in the second half, as Olivia Grytza scored her first goal of the year in the 48th minute.

Dallas added another goal in the 66th minute.  Monica O'Donnell found a loose ball inside the goalie box off a UD corner kick and knocked it in for her first goal in two seasons.

UD led in all offensive categories with huge advantages over LeTourneau in shots, 17-4, and shots on goal, 9-3.  Dallas also owned the lead in corner kicks, 3-2, offside, 3-1, and fouls, 9-1.

Claire Reed had a game high in both shots and shots on goal with six and three, respectively.  Andrea Coppi had three shots for UD and the game's lone assist.  Monica O'Donnell had two shots, both on goal.

Crusader goalkeeper Kaitlyn Vess recorded her first clean sheet of her career with three saves on the night.

Yellowjacket goalkeeper Kiersten Reeser tallied seven saves for the game.

With the win Dallas evens their record at 1-1-0 (0-0-0), and with the loss LeTourneau stays winless at 0-2-0 (0-0-0).  Dallas will continue their schedule with their first home games of the season this weekend.  The Crusaders will play the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday, September 10 at 7:00 PM and then play conference rival Texas Lutheran University on Sunday, September 12 at 2:00 PM.  All times are Central.
