Crusaders Women's Soccer Falls in OT to Trinity on Saturday

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team lost to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponent Trinity on Saturday. Dallas lost the game 1-0 in overtime on a fortuitous goal by Tiger midfielder Kaity Ward.

The game's offense was largely one sided as Dallas played most of the game on their defensive side of the field. UD's defense was bombarded by a relentless offensive barrage from Trinity as the Tigers outshot Dallas 33-4 with a 17-1 shot on goal advantage. The Crusaders withstood the Trinity's offensive onslaught through all of regulation into the beginning of overtime. The game ended in an anticlimactic manner as the game-winning goal was scored bouncing weakly off a Crusader defender, off the bottom of the cross bar and just barely over the goal line before UD keeper Macey Henderson (San Antonio, Texas) could recover to make the save.

Henderson recorded a career-high 16 saves, which is the most for a Crusader since 2019 when Olivia Severson (La Crosse, Wis.) recorded 16 saves in the SCAC semi-final match also against Trinity.

Trinity's Madison Horner and Ward combined for 15 shots and nine shots on goal.

Maddie Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) had UD's lone shot on goal for the game. Alyssa Mencacci (League City, Texas), Courtney Bokanyi (Montgomery, Texas) and Avery Seaman (Bedford, Texas) each had a shot for Dallas.

This was the first time UD played an extra period this spring. Dallas last played a home overtime game on September 15, 2019, versus McMurry University. Altogether that year, UD went 1-0-2 in overtime.

Dallas with the loss drops to 2-2-0 (2-2-0) and with the win Trinity improves to 4-0-0 (4-0-0). UD is on the road next Saturday, March 27 and will visit the 'Roos of Austin College.
