Crusaders Cool Off Centenary in Tough Road Victory

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team played their first road game of the season against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponent Centenary College of Louisiana on Saturday. Dallas won the game 1-0 on a 49th minute goal by junior Maddie Rodriguez (Houston, Texas).

Coming into the game, Centenary was on a six-game winning streak and outscored opponents 16-1 during that span. Before the goal scored by Rodriguez, the Ladies hadn't allowed a goal by an opponent for over 535 minutes.

The game was fairly even between the Crusaders and the Ladies on offense as the both teams had over 10 shots and five saves. Centenary outshot Dallas slightly with a 13-11 advantage and a corner kick advantage of 4-2. However, Dallas had more shots on goal leading 6-5, including the goal by Rodriguez.

While Centenary was whistled for more fouls, 13-9, UD received the only yellow card issued for their third in three games. 

Crusaders goalie Macey Henderson (San Antonio, Texas) earned her second clean sheet of the season, and Courtney Bokanyi (Montgomery, Texas) picked up her second assist of the season on the goal by Rodriguez.

UD with the win improves to 2-1-0 (2-1-0) on the year and with the loss Centenary falls to 6-1-0 (2-1-0). This is the first win for the Crusaders at Mayo Field since September 26, 2014.

Dallas will be back home on Saturday, March 20 and will host the Tigers of Trinity University at 1 p.m. The time has been moved up from the original later afternoon kickoff due to the men's match moving up to Friday.
