Crusaders Claim Home Opener vs Schreiner, 1-0

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team kicked off the season with a win against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponent Schreiner University 1-0. The lone goal of the game was scored in the 69th minute by freshman Avery Seaman (Bedford, Texas).

Condititions were overcast and slick on Crusader Field at kick off. Neither team could grab a solid footing in a scoreless first half as both teams had a low shot count at 5-3 in favor of Dallas. Schreiner shot better on goal putting all three of their shots on target while Dallas had only one SOG. UD also had the only corner kick of the half as well.

The Crusaders picked up the offense in the second half outshooting Schreiner 13-5 and 4-3 on goal. Seaman scored her first collegiate goal in her first career game off a double assist by sophomores Alyssa Mencacci (League City, Texas) and Bridgette Alpar (San Antonio, Texas).  After Seaman's goal UD stayed agressive and outshot Schreiner 6-1 in the last 21 minutes of the game.

UD's back line lead by freshman Elise Valdez (Helotes, Texas) and junior Michelle MacIntyre (Houston, Texas) hampered the Schreiner's attack to earn the Crusaders' first clean sheet of the year. Freshman goalkeeper Macey Henderson (San Antonio, Texas) cemented the shutout saving all six of the Mountaineers' shots.

Dallas with the win improves to 1-0-0 on the year and with the loss Schreiner falls to 0-1-0.  UD will be back next Sunday, March 7 in Irving at will host the Bulldogs of Texas Lutheran University.
