Crusaders drop Friday's Match to St. Thomas

HOUSTON, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 result at University of St. Thomas on Friday evening. The Crusaders (3-3-1) offense could not generate enough opportunities, as the Celts (2-3-1) scored twice in the second half to put the game out of reach at Houston Sports Park.

Dallas was outshot 8-1 in the opening half but kept the home team off the board until Katarina Maksimov scored from the close right wing in the 42nd minute. Haile Hernandez assisted the scoring play and UST carried a 1-0 advantage into intermission.

The Crusaders had two of the first three shots in the second half, but both went wide in each direction. At the 58:50-minute mark, Aeriana Lewis put a high arcing shot from the top of the penalty area to tickle the twine and make it a 2-0 game. Hernandez grabbed her second helper of the match. Maksimov scored the final goal with Lewis assisting on the play. This sequence happened with less than 10 minutes remaining and Dallas had only one shot that occurred beyond that juncture.

Gigi Garcia Orozco (San Antonio, Texas) took two shots and placed one on frame. Olivia Severson (La Crosse, Wis.) made four saves in 90 minutes in goal for UD.

UST totaled 15 shots with seven on frame. It also held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. After just seven combined fouls in the first half, the team's doubled that total in the second half.
