Crusaders Fall 3-1 to LeTourneau on Friday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team was edged 3-1 by LeTourneau University on Friday night. Izzy Barajas (Bryan, Texas) scored her first collegiate goal and first by the Crusaders (0-2) in 2019 to level the score at 1 in the 21st minute. A pair of goals by the YellowJackets (1-1) in the second half secured the final result.

Jennifer Martin was responsible for the first and third goals for LeTourneau, as well as piled on eight shots and five shots on goal for game-highs. Kara Gipson got an assist in the first scoring sequence to Martin at 11:32 in the match.

Barajas was able to counter with the UD equalizer just over nine minutes later as she got her own shot attempt blocked back to her prior and then buried the second look. Monica O'Donnell (Lincoln, Neb.) had created the couple opportunities by crossing the ball back from the left side deep in the box to set up the scramble for Barajas to gain a pair of strong shots.

Knotted out of halftime still, LETU scored less than six minutes into the second frame. Gipson registered a goal to give her three points. Reagan Sandford had the helper. Dallas withstood the next 11 shots coming from the visitors until a header shot by Bekah Gonzalez (Reno, Nev.) went wide at 72:21. A couple seconds later, the Crusaders followed with a shot on goal by Michelle MacIntyre (Houston, Texas).

Martin put the game out of reach late in the 74th minute to give her multiple goals and four points. Tamara Mahoney assisted the last scoring sequence.

Natalie Kutac (Bulverde, Texas) garnered nine saves in 90 minutes. Her counterpart Mackenzie Wilbanks notched four saves against five shots faced.
