BACK ON THE FIELD

The University of Dallas women's soccer team opens its home schedule for the 2018 season on Friday versus Johnson & Wales University (CO). It will also be the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opener for the Crusaders and is slated to begin around 7 p.m. following the men's match. It will be the first match under the lights on the new soccer field.

Dallas has back-to-back games scheduled with a non-conference opponent on Saturday at 7 p.m. with Howard Payne University. The Crusaders continue the busy schedule with its third match in five days next Tuesday at Centenary College.

The Crusaders are 0-1-1 on the season after their trip to California last weekend. They finished in a 1-1 draw at University of La Verne, and dropped their most recent outing 2-1 at Whittier College.


UD NOTES

-Bekah Gonzalez (Reno, Nev.) and Mason Cosgrove (Las Cruces, N.M.) have scored the goals score far this young season for the Crusaders.

-Gonzalez netted her first collegiate goal in the team's tie.

-Cosgrove added her seventh career goal on an assist from Whitney Jackson (Pryor, Okla.) in Sunday's match at Whittier.

-Both goals by Dallas have come in the second half.

-Natalie Kutac (Bulverde, Texas) has not allowed a goal in 90 minutes (two games). Olivia Severson (La Crosse, Wis.) has split time in the goalkeeper position with a team-high 110 minutes.

A LOOK AT THE OPPONENTS

(Johnson & Wales University)

-This will be Johnson and Wales University's first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) game. JWU recently was added to the conference this year and is also in a transition from NAIA to NCAA Division III.

-The Wildcats were selected eighth in the SCAC Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll.

-JWU (1-1) fell last Sunday in a 4-0 result to UC Santa Cruz. It was a neutral site game at Mills College, who the Wildcats topped 6-0.

-Rebecca Brock scored a pair of goals in the team's victory at Mills. Yesenia Hernandez, Natasha Martin, Katherine Owens, and Maysen Whitney logged the other goals. Martin is the team leader in shots (8) and shots on goal (5).

-Katelyn Peters has played all 180 minutes in goal and nabbed seven saves.

-These programs meet for the first time in history.

-The Yellow Jackets are 0-1 on the campaign.

-They fell 1-0 to Wayland Baptist University on Tuesday at home.

-Howard Payne went 5-9-1 in 2017 with a 4-8 record in the American Southwest Conference (ASC).

-Dallas is 1-6 in the overall series.
