Vasile gets Crusaders on the Board; Women's Soccer and Schreiner Tie on Sunday

KERRVILLE, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team earned its first point in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play after tying Schreiner University 1-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Crusaders improved to 1-4-2  overall and 0-1-1 in conference play. Their second tie of the campaign matches the previous two season totals and ended a two-game slide. The Mountaineers (1-4-1, 0-0-1 SCAC) gained their first draw of the season in their conference opener.

Both teams went scoreless in the first half. Mackenzie Vasile (San Antonio, Texas) connected for her first goal of the season less than a minute into the second half. Whitney Jackson (Pryor, Okla.) contributed the assist for her first point since the season opener.

Schreiner countered a few moments later with Cailee Morgan netting her second goal of the year for the equalizer. That final scoring play occurred at the 48:57 minute mark. Each side combined for nine shots in both frames, with the Crusaders outdoing SU 5-4.

The Mountaineers attempted the lone shot in overtime, with Morgan putting a ball on frame in the 105th minute. UD's Elena Naccari (Covington, La.) made the stop for her eighth save of the match, as she worked all 110 minutes. Her counterpart in goal, Allyssa Nease made six saves while facing seven shots in a complete double overtime match. Jackson was the only Dallas player with multiple shots and both were on goal. The Mountaineers outshot the guests 11-8 and held the advantage in corner kicks 10-3. This included nine in the second stanza.
