SCAC Tournament: Texas Lutheran 1, @UDallasWSoccer 0
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team (10-9-1) dropped a 1-0 contest versus Texas Lutheran University (10-8-1) on Saturday night in the semifinals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) tournament. The Lady Crusaders ended the season series against TLU, 1-2, falling in each contest away from Crusader Field.
In a match that featured No. 2 Texas Lutheran and third-seeded Dallas, each squad had chances to score, but a netter in the 74th minute by TLU's Maegan Idrogo would be the difference.
Her game-winner came from Zoe Gulick and Sioned Kirkpatrick, and would lift the Bulldogs into the SCAC title contest Sunday against host school, No.2-nationally ranked Trinity University.
Dallas did boast a 15-12 shot advantage, with nine of them happening in a first half that provided the No.3-seed with a few high leverage opportunities. In the first 25 minutes, the navy and white did push pressure on TLU, attempting five out of the first seven attempts in the low-scoring effort.
Erin Rose claimed the win with seven saves on the shutout anchored a stout defense that didn't allow any shot attempts to find the back of the net.
The black and gold found more offensive momentum in the second stanza, outdoing Dallas 8-6. Once the lead was taken with just over 15 minutes remaining, the Lady Crusaders began pressing for the equalizer. Despite a few nice looks, the Bulldogs kept the box cleared nicely and kept the navy and white from knotting things up.
Senior forward Nicole Johnson (Houston, Texas) notched a game-high six shots and posted a .500 shot on goal percentage with nearly half of the squad's seven shots on target. The team's leading scorer ends her career with nine on the campaign.
Only four players tallied shots in the contest for Dallas, all contributing with multi-shot performances. Behind Johnson were freshmen midfielders Alice Nelson (Jackson, Tenn.) and Kayla Glenn (Chandler, Ariz.) with four and three, respectively. Rounding out the quartet with a pair was freshman midfielder Cascade Mayer (Kapaa, Hawii).
Saddled with the loss was freshman goalkeeper Elena Naccari (Covington, La.) who worked a complete game and allowed the one goal while collecting five saves. In her rookie season, the defending SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week logged 1296 minutes in 15 appearances, and surrendered 22 goals while she nabbed 73 saves.
This concludes the 2014 campaign for the Dallas women's soccer team.
