Sexton, Hasson trigger Women's Soccer past University of Texas-Tyler in tight 1-0 match

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team (7-1) held on for a quality 1-0 win over the University of Texas-Tyler, as forward Claire Sexton converted on a penalty-kick and goalkeeper Brigid Hasson stopped another Tuesday evening at Crusader Field.

Despite Dallas managing just five shots on goal in their last tune-up before conference play, the Lady Crusaders executed when the time called.

Sexton (Salem, Va.) was awarded a penalty-kick in the 25th-minute after a well-placed cross caused a frenzy in front of Texas-Tyler (4-2) goalkeeper Macy Hurley. The junior made good on the opportunity, giving the Lady Crusaders an early 1-0 advantage.

Those familiar with Texas-Tyler head coach Stefani Webb knew her team would not go down easily. Coach Webb managed Dallas to a 91-46-6 (.657) record in eight seasons (1997-2004) and remains the owner of several school coaching records.

Texas-Tyler forced the Dallas defense to be on full alert throughout a majority of the match, outshooting the Lady Crusaders 22-11.

What mattered at the end of the day, however, was the fact Hasson (Fairfax, Va.) stopped Texas-Tyler's 10 shots on goal en route to her fourth shutout of 2012.

Hasson's most spectacular save occurred deep into the second half, when she successfully combated a penalty-kick that could have changed the game's complection.

This fete energized her teammates, and head coach Kristina Corona's Lady Crusaders pulled out the one goal victory.

Next opponent:

Dallas begins Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday, Sept. 21, in San Antonio. The Lady Crusaders are pitted against No. 5 Trinity University (4-0-1) in a 4 p.m. Texas-sized showdown.

Live stats will be provided by Trinity.
