Women's Soccer handles Hendrix College

The University of Dallas women's soccer team (7-10-1) extended their winning streak to three games, with a 3-1 victory over Hendrix College at home on Friday afternoon.

Once again, freshmen forward Claire Sexton (Salem, Va./Salem H.S.) and goalkeeper Brigid Hasson (Fairfax, Va./Trinity at Meadowview) proved to be key cogs for the Crusaders.

It took Sexton only 15 minutes to find the back of the net, giving Dallas an early advantage. Sexton's goal came on an assist from midfielder Emily Rogers (San Antonio, Texas/MacArthur H.S.), who has had a great freshman campaign of her own.

In the goalkeeper department, Hasson recorded another personal shutout with four saves in the game. Hasson kept Dallas in quite a few games this season and will be a great asset to the team heading forward over the next three years.

While neither Dallas nor Hendrix were able to score in the final 30 minutes of the first half, Dallas struck only three minutes into the second half, extending their lead to 2-0. Dallas' second goal came when Sexton headed a well-placed ball from senior defender Mary Gaffney (Cascade, Colo./Manitou Springs H.S.) into the back of the net.

Slightly over a minute later, Sexton switched roles from scorer to passer, assisting sophomore forward Summer Northern (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.). This goal gave Dallas a commanding 3-0 lead.

With nine minutes remaining in the match, Hendrix got on the board with a nicely placed shot that soared just over back-up goalkeeper Emily Rogers' head.

On Sunday, Nov. 7, the Crusaders will play host to Rhodes College. The match will start at 12:00 p.m., and is Dallas' last game of the season.

With it being 'Senior Day', Mary Gaffney, Cheryl Hinze, and Hannah Langsfeld (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) will be recognized for their career contributions during a pre-game ceremony.
