Five Dallas Soccer Women Receive AD3I Awards

Five of the University of Dallas women's soccer members received awards from the Association of Division III Independents after their 5-15 season. Senior goalkeeper Jennifer Boryca (Piqua, OH/Piqua H.S.) and freshman midfielder Marie Meagher (Grand Forks, ND/Red River H.S.) were placed on the All-Independents first team, freshman forward Mellissa Carpenter (Sugar Land, TX/Stephen F. Austin H.S.) and junior defender/midfielder Natalie Weisse (Morgantown, WV/Morgantown H.S.) were named second team All-Independents, and junior midfielder/defender Mary Gaffney (Cascade, CO/Manitou Springs H.S.) rounded out UD's representation on the AD3I team's as a All-Independents third team member.

In 20 games (20 starts) Boryca, a second team AD3I team member last season, racked up 114 saves and a 5 and 15 record in 1760 minutes in goal for UD. She was also named the team's co-MVP for the second consecutive season. Meagher had 12 points on 4 goals and a team leading 5 assists this season, and led her freshman class on the field by starting as midfielder in all 16 games she played. She was named a USCAA honorable mention All-American earlier this post-season.

In her first year with the team, Weisse started 20 of the 20 games and recorded 1 assist while playing stellar defense in helping Boryca limit opponents to 2.2 goals per game. Carpenter played 19 games, all of which she started, tied for the team lead with 4 goals and assisted 4 others for a total of 12 points. Like Meagher, Carpenter helped solidify the strong freshman class and was named a USCAA honorable mention All-American already this post-season. Gaffney started 20 games and also helped Boryca limit the opponents' shots.

The aforementioned players helped the team receive several post season awards after they rebounded from a winless season to a 5-15 campaign.
