Crusaders edged by Lions on Sunday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team was topped 22-1 on Sunday versus Piedmont College. The Lions scored three goals in under four minutes en route to a 14-1 halftime lead.

The Crusaders (0-2) struck for their lone goal at 16:18 to cut the deficit to 6-1. Emily Pauletti (Dallas) connected in front of the cage on a pass that came from her right by Angela Bawardi (Fort Worth, Texas). Pauletti stretched her scoring streak to 13 games dating back to March 13, 2019. Bawardi in her second collegiate match added three draw controls to match a team-high, two ground balls, and one caused turnover in addition to her assist for her first career point.

Lizzy Elftelt (Brookfield, Wis.) matched UD's high for draw controls with three and added four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Gabby Dixon (San Diego, Calif.) was able to cause three turnovers on the Lions and had a game-high six ground balls. Kathleen Rodda (Granite Bay, Calif.) made six saves in 60 minutes at goalkeeper.

The Lions (2-5) were led by Emma Fransen with six goals and three assists for nine points. Aislynn Kimbro contributed four goals and matched a game-high three assists. Joining the trio with three helpers was Macy Higgins. These three accounted for all nine assists by Piedmont. The Lions held an edge in draw controls (17-7), shots (32-16), and ground balls (24-21). They were 27-of-32 on successful clears.

Dallas wraps up March with an away game on Saturday, March 20 at Ottawa University.
