Crusaders Topped by Berry College on Wednesday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team was defeated 19-7 on Wednesday versus Berry College. The Vikings scored five goals in a row in the last 12 minutes of the first half to boost their advantage to 9-3. That momentum carried in the second half to a 10-4 difference that dropped UD in the home outing.

The Crusaders (1-4) withstood three free position shots by Berry in the opening minutes of the game. The first two were blocked and saved before the Crusaders executed on a successful clear that would lead to Anne Davis (Ogden, Utah) scoring her first collegiate goal a little over two minutes in.

Berry (2-7) started executing offensively with Miranda Smith and Carlee May putting the visitors up the rest of the way at 24:59 and 23:04 marks, respectively. Dylan Swan added a man-up goal at 19:02 to finish the scoring run.

UD's Emily Pauletti (Dallas, Texas) countered with her first goal to give her one in all five contests this season at 18:40. Teams traded goals with Dallas' Jordyn Buell (Murrieta, Calif.) keeping a goal-difference at the midway point of the first stanza.

Berry started the big run at 11:54 by Maddie Myers. She was responsible for three of the goals in that span and the Vikings held UD scoreless the last 15 of the frame. UD did its best to stay close, as Berry's run ended with the final goal eight minutes before intermission. The Vikings used a 24-16 advantage on shots in that half.

Pauletti tried to spark a charge into the Crusaders out of the break with an early goal, but Berry countered with four more goals to keep the game out of reach.

The team's leading scorer on the season finished with another hat trick of three goals. She put five of her eight shots on cage. Ann Rushing was a perfect 6-for-6 on her shots hitting the cage, though she only notched one goal. Davis did have the other multiple scoring game. Dallas had 10 ground balls per half and edged the opposition by one. It was a team effort for UD with seven players having more than one. Lizzy Elfet led with four and also matched a season-high six draw controls for the second game in a row. Lizz Winkler (St. Charles, Ill.) made 10 saves in 60 minutes in the goalie role. This was her second contest this season to reach 10 or more saves.

Dallas as a team had one more turnover with 25 compared to Berry's 24. UD failed to clear the ball 10 times, but were much better going 13-of-16 in the second half. Berry went 21-of-34 in the game.

Myers paced the Vikings with seven goals and took 10 shots and nine on cage. She did a good job on the draw controls, winning eight of the team's 16. Smith and May also had hat tricks with three goals. Smith actually secured the most points in the match with five assists. Andrea Lindgren turned 12 shots away against 16 faced in 44:48 minutes. Kristina Jones added three more saves in the remainder of the game.
