Winkler named Defensive Player of the Week among Independent Women's Lacrosse Schools

GEORGETOWN, Texas – University of Dallas women's lacrosse goalkeeper Lizz Winkler (St. Charles, Ill.) was awarded the Independent Women's Lacrosse Schools (IWLS) Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 5, 2017. An offensive and defensive selection are decided on by a vote from each of the Independent Schools' Coaches.

Dallas is one-of-nine programs part of the IWLS. Fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) foes Colorado College and Southwestern University are also members. Rounding out the rest of the bunch are: Dean College, D'Youville College, Franciscan University, Northland College, University of Northwestern-St. Paul, and State University of New York-Canton.

Winkler garners the weekly accolade for the first time in her career and is first member of the Dallas program to be named as well. Winkler snagged 15 saves to earn the Crusaders their first win of 2017 last Saturday against Millsaps College. She faced 22 shots and etched a 68.2 save percentage in what was a four-point goal differential (11-7). Winkler's save count was one shy of the freshman's season-high and her goals allowed was its lowest mark. At the time of the nomination, Winkler had amassed 54 saves in 300 minutes.

Dallas wraps up its homestand with two matches in the middle and end of this week. On Wednesday the Crusaders play University of Northwestern-St. Paul, and then conclude the home stretch on Friday against Beloit College.
