Women's Lacrosse finishes Season Sunday Versus Augsburg

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team closed the 2016 campaign with a 13-5 setback on Sunday against Augsburg College. Head coach Lauren Martin completes her first year at the helm guiding Dallas to a 4-8 record. Three of those occurred on the road, and another total of three were with the Lady Crusaders netting 13 goals.

This afternoon it was the opposition that displayed that mark. Dallas gained a 2-1 advantage at the 23:10 mark in the opening half by senior Colby Madrigal (Laguna Niguel, Calif.). The team's leading scorer (27 goals) lifted UD to its lone lead of the afternoon two and a half minutes after sophomore Sarah Schmitz (Huntington, N.Y.) got the guests on the board. Senior Hayley Rodgers (Houston, Texas) dished an assist, as the project four-year letterwinner etched a point in 11-of-12 contests this campaign.

The Auggies, who improved to 9-5, shifted the momentum their way with five straight goals and six of the final seven in the stanza. Shelby Brion sank consecutive goals to secure a hat trick, as she had posted the first scoring sequence of the match. Freshman Lexi Leite (Houston, Texas) ended the 12 minute scoring run at the 8:13 mark. Augsburg scored its second straight free position goal with 11 seconds left by Everett Delaney. That made the score at halftime 7-3.

Leite started Dallas on the right track with an early second half goal to cut the margin to three. AC would be held scoreless over nine minutes into the half, before Delaney scored consecutively at the 20:47 and 19:28 marks. Helena Nguyen assisted both of those goals and Delaney managed the second Augsburg hat trick. Dallas got outscored 6-2 overall those 30 minutes, and fell in the final game of the season at Klas Field.
