Women's Lacrosse pulls away in Second Half at University of Northwestern

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team (4-7) won consecutive games, on the strength of a 6-1 second half on the scoreboard, as the guests toppled University of Northwestern (1-10) on Saturday. The final score was 13-6. It is the third contest this season the Lady Crusaders have matched a season-high in the scoring column. All three games of those games were victories.

The halftime score was 7-5, and senior Colby Madrigal (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) was responsible for five of her eventual career-best six goals in the stanza. University of Northwestern tacked the first run of the match with Grace Daggett notching a goal off a free position shot.

Freshman Lexi Leite (Houston, Texas) hit the equalizer, to etch the Lady Crusaders onto the board with just under five minutes ticked from the clock. Senior Hayley Rodgers (Houston, Texas) assisted Leite on the goal. Madrigal scored a free position shot to lift UD up 2-1 at the 24:28 mark.

The Eagles' Molly Repp found the back of the cage with 19:37 remaining to knot the contest back a final time. Dallas rattled off three straight goals with Leite starting the stretch a little over a minute later. The teams went in a drought for nearly seven minutes before Madrigal punched her second goal. The Lady Crusaders netted five of the final goals and the team's leading scorer was responsible for the last four of the half. Madrigal had already matched a personal best in the scoring column by intermission.

Sophomore Sarah Schmitz (Huntington, N.Y.) kept the Dallas momentum up in the second half with a little over a minute counted off the clock before her lone goal of the day. It was not until 13:40 remained, that a squad would score again. Rodgers picked up her only goal, sinking a free position shot. That capped another 3-0 run, before Northwestern's Jenny Chamberlain countered on a free position scoring play less than a minute later.

Dallas closed the triumph with four unanswered goals. Leite scored twice, Madrigal notched her career-best, and freshman Annie Elfelt (Brookfield, Wis.) scored her second goal this season.
