Women's Lacrosse defeats Loras College on Sunday

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team matched a season-high 13 goals and posted its highest marks in other stats this season to defeat Loras College (2-6) on Sunday. Dallas (3-8) ended a five-game losing streak and split the two games on this road weekend, after a one-goal setback on Saturday.

Neither team found the back of the goal for over 10 minutes into the first half. Freshman Lexie Leite (Houston, Texas), who managed a game-high five goals, broke the scoreless action at the 19:33 mark.

Molly Johnson for the Duhawks knotted the contest 1-1 about three minutes later, and then the Lady Crusaders produced five of the last six goals in the first stanza. Sophomore Sarah Schmitz (Huntington, N.Y.) fired the go-ahead goal just under halfway until the intermission. Freshman Claire Gagliano (Peachtree City, Ga.) came through on a free position goal less than a minute later.

Loras nipped the deficit to one goal (3-2) as Johnson scored again with 9:25 left. The visitors rattled four straight goals, including the final three of the half. Leite netted her second of the game at the 8:45 mark. Schmitz gave an assist and then etched her third point on a free position scoring play with 1:42 remaining from the break. Leite secured her third career hat trick in the closing 49 seconds. Dallas led 6-2 at halftime.

Leite got the offense rolling some more in the second with her fourth goal about a minute out of the draw control. Senior Colby Madrigal (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) earned her first point with an assist. An LC goal ended the run, but then Madrigal tallied her second assist on a goal by classmate Hayley Rodgers (Houston, Texas). Madrigal hit her 20th goal his season at the 15:42 mark. The team's leading scorer lifted UD to an 11-4 advantage, which had been the greatest at the time. The Lady Crusaders led by as many as eight tonight, on two occasions.

- Leite matched a season-high, five goals. Schmitz contributed three for a hat trick. The duo had six and five points, respectively mentioned. Gagliano added two.

- Madrigal and Schmitz dished two assists apiece. Madrigal boasted seven draw controls and six groundballs. Freshman Erika Keever (Fort Worth, Texas) tied the six groundballs mark for a career-best.

- The Lady Crusaders attempted season-highs in shots with 40 and shots on cage with 28. The 33 groundballs were also a season-best.

- Dallas forced 21 caused turnovers and the Duhawks caused 18. Madrigal led with six, Schmitz added four, and a trio of players had three apiece – Leite, Rodgers, and Keever.

- Freshman Kyla Mangham won her third game with a 60 minute complete effort. She made three saves.

- Loras was led by Johnson with two goals. Kaitlyn Kutsch also had two points with a goal and an assist.

- Nine of the team's 13 shots were on cage. 18 groundballs were taken and six draw controls were won by the Purple and Gold.

- Ashley McGee allowed 15 goals against 28 shots faced in a complete effort.
