Women's Lacrosse falls on Senior Day to Illinois Tech

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team could not halt a strong offensive performance from Illinois Institute of Technology in a 14-5 setback on Sunday. The Lady Crusaders (2-6) would trail 11-1 at halftime. Despite scoring four of the first five goals in the second half, Illinois Tech (3-1) kept its distance to win on UD's final home game of the campaign.

The visitors built a 2-0 advantage within the first three and a half minutes. Isabel Fitzpatrick tallied a goal less than a minute from the opening draw control. Sara Colby picked up the first of two straight personal goals for the Scarlett Hawks to double the edge.

Senior Hayley Rodgers (Houston, Texas) cut the deficit in half with her 10th goal of the season at the 25:48 mark. The goal secured the four-year player with double figures in scoring totals for Dallas in each season.

IIT tilted the momentum on its side with nine unanswered scoring results to build a 10-goal edge within the final minute of the stanza. A final goal by Madison Meredith with 27:31 to go in the contest completed a stretch of 10 straight goals for the road squad.

With about 10 and a half minutes ticked by in the frame, Dallas netted a goal to end the run. Rodgers would be responsible for ending the UD drought and five minutes later took advantage of a power play to claim the hat trick. Two more goals by senior Colby Madrigal (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and freshman Lexi Leite (Houston, Texas), respectively narrowed the gap to 12-5 with 11:42 remaining.

That was as narrow as things came, as Illinois Tech countered with two more goals in the last five minutes to round out the scoreboard.

Prior to the match, the senior trio of Lady Crusaders: Madrigal, Rodgers, and Esther Gomez (Westford, Mass.) were recognized. Gomez is a graduate student working on her Masters of Pastoral Ministry, with a Church Management Concentration. She has started all eight games in her first season with Dallas and been an anchor on defense.
