Hanover College tops Women's Lacrosse with big Second Half Sunday

HANOVER, Ind. – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team (2-3) fell 12-5 at Hanover College (1-2) on Sunday afternoon. After battling to a 4-4 score at intermission, the Panthers would surge on with an 8-1 scoring swing to secure the victory.

Hanover had the early momentum with the first three goals coming in less than eight minutes out of the opening draw control. Cassie Hendrickson got the first scoring play on either side with 27:46 left in the half. Mallory Fogus would got back-to-back on goals within two to two and half minutes of each result.

Saturday's hero for the Lady Crusaders, Sarah Schmitz (Huntington, N.Y.) got her squad on the board with a goal a little past the midway point of the stanza. Schmitz had scored three of UD's last four goals dating into the previous match. She has six overall on the season.

With just over five minutes left in the first, Dallas shifted the momentum by tallying three goals in a span of about two minutes. Starting the trio was senior Colby Madrigal (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) with her 10th of the campaign. Adding goals for the Navy and White were junior Gwen Mohler (San Francisco, Calif.) with her second and freshman Lexi Leite (Houston, Texas) with her seventh.

Leite's goal lifted the Lady Crusaders to their one advantage of the match (4-3) with 3:04 minutes left in the half. However, the home squad got a game-tying netter from Rachel Davis in the closing seconds to knot things 4-all at the break.

That sparked an 8-0 run for the Panthers, including seven unanswered in the second half. Four quick goals happened in nearly a four minute stretch to double the margin. Neither team scored for over 15 minutes. Senior Hayley Rodgers (Houston, Texas) ended the UD scoring drought with her seventh on the year with 2:10 on the clock.
