Women's Lacrosse unable to Stick with Wartburg College

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team (1-2) fell at home on Sunday afternoon to Wartburg College (1-0). UD trailed only by two at halftime, but the Knights would string four straight goals to pull away to an eventual 13-7 advantage.

Senior Colby Madrigal (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) gave the Lady Crusaders their lone advantage of the day with a goal just over a minute out of the first draw control. Fellow classmate Hayley Rodgers would dish the assist.

Wartburg rattled four unanswered points over nearly a six minute span, and would use two different stretches to keep UD from overtaking the margin.

Madrigal would net her second goal of the game with 16:27 minutes until halftime. The goal ended the Knights' run. With just over 15 minutes, sophomore Sarah Schmitz (Huntington, N.Y.) scored on a power play and the home team moved within one point (4-3).

Dallas score consecutive goals twice in the game, with both in the first stanza. The next time would be freshmen Lexi Leite (Houston, Texas) and Erika Keever (Fort Worth, Texas) going back-to-back within a 12 second span. Leite's was also a on a power play for UD.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

- Madrigal was one scoring result shy of a career high, by tallying four. Her personal best came in on April 12, 2015, at College of St. Elizabeth (NJ).

- Leite also had a multi-scoring game with a pair of goals. Madrigal led the team with seven shots, all on cage, and Leite added six. The duo have six goals each on the campaign.

- Schmitz attempted all her shots on cage, totaling four. Dallas outdid the Knights 23-21 in shots, and 20-17 in shots on cage.

- Madrigal led all players in ground balls (5) and caused turnovers (6). She led the team in draw controls (3). Schmitz added three ground balls. UD garnered a 15-11 edge in groundballs.

- Wartburg would win 12 draw controls compared to eight by the home team. Ashley Lahti notched a game-high five.

- Three Players would tally hat tricks for the Knights, which included: Kyra Saragaglia, Megan Howe, and Allie Stahmer. Howe led the guests with six shots and five on cage.

- Karolina Paulsen would get the win as the goalkeeper, and saved 12 attempts against 20 shots faced. She stopped seven saves in the first half.
