Largest scoring outburst since 2011 Leads Women's Lacrosse to first win of year

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team (1-3) captured its first victory of the campaign with the highest scoring output since 2011, and were able to defeat Cornell College (0-3) on a wet Sunday afternoon.

With a final score 16-2, the last time UD accumulated this many goals was in a 16-9 triumph over Notre Dame on April 17. That same campaign, the Navy and White poured a program record 20 goals over Marymount College on March 27. The mark also surpasses the most recent high for the team, which occurred last year on April 1 at Loras in a 12-10 result.

In today's affair, the Lady Crusaders doubled their goal total from Saturday's season-high versus Oklahoma Baptist University, in the first stanza to seize control of the momentum. The score at intermission was 12-0.

Junior Colby Madrigal (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) got the scoring barrage started about 20 seconds into the contest with her first goal of her collegiate career.

UD spread the contributions around as a trio of players garnered hat tricks for the home squad. Pacing the team with a career day was freshman Erin Chadwick (Tampa Bay, Fla.) with four goals, an assist, nine points, 10 shots, and eight attempts on target.

Joining the group with three netters apiece were junior Hayley Rodgers (Houston, Texas) and senior Mary Hilker (Haslett, Mich.). The duo combined to shoot six of seven on goal and notched their trifecta of goals in the opening half.

Freshman Sarah Schmitz (Huntington, N.Y.) busted onto the scene in the latter frame, scoring twice for each of her goals – the first of her career. The attacker picked up a game-high six ground balls, and shot three times, all being placed on the cage.

Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Crusaders included: freshman Patty Hahn (Plano, Texas), sophomore Mary White (Slinger, Wis.), and senior Meghan Falconer (Kohler, Wis.).

As a team, Dallas outshot the Rams 30-16 with a season-best 23 counting on goal. The home squad also managed 26 groundballs compared to 12 from the guests, and won 12 draw controls.

Credited with the win was senior Christine Jablonsky (Colorado Springs, Colo.). The goalkeeper nabbed 10 saves against 12 shots faced.

Cornell College was led by Lindsey Ribota with both netters and a team-high five shots. Morgan Champagne added four attempts with three on goal.

Ebele Bay-Coffie worked 60 minutes in the cage while stopping seven shots for saves against 23.
