@UDallasWLax wins season-opener over Hendrix (AR), 12-9

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team (1-0) opened their 2014 season with a 12-9 victory over Hendrix College (0-2) early Sunday afternoon at Crusader Field.

Jessie Koster (Sherwood, Ore.) headlined in her debut with the Lady Crusaders, as the freshman attack/midfielder scored a game-high seven goals and forced a school-record six caused turnovers.

Koster landed 9-of-12 shots on goal, was 1-of-1 in free-position attempts and had a man-down goal. She also added nine ground balls and five draw controls to her stat line.  

Koster tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal, with 12:40 remaining in the second period, on an assist from freshman midfielder Mary Davern (Silver Spring, Md.). 

Davern followed suit, as she netted a goal of her own, with 11:16 left in regulation. She finished with a goal, two assists, five shots and two ground balls.

Landri Wenzel managed a team-high five points (four goals, one assist) for Hendrix, while junior midfielder Mary Hilker (Haslett, Mich.) contributed two goals for Dallas.

Sophomore attack Hayley Rodgers (Houston, Texas) and junior defense/midfielder Meghan Falconer (Kohler, Wis.) had a goal apiece for head coach Melissa Grant's squad. 

Christine Jablonsky (Colorado Springs, Colo.) started in net for the navy and white. The junior goalkeeper recorded nine saves and a ground ball in the winning bid.

Dallas faces Southwestern Univeristy (1-0) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, in Georgetown, Texas.
