Women's Lacrosse stumbles in 'Centennial State,' drops pair of games to Colorado College and Westminster College (Utah)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Dallas women's lacrosse team (3-8) travelled to Colorado looking to continue their two-game win streak with two games. The Lady Crusaders, however, fell to Colorado College, 17-7, and then to Westminster College (Utah), 15-5. 

Dallas 7, Colorado College 17 Boxscore

The Lady Crusaders fell quickly and hard early on to Colorado, dropping behind 11 goals before scoring their first. Freshman attack Celina Gonzalez (Spring, Texas/Klein H.S.) scored the only two goals for Dallas in the first half, one off an assist from senior midfielder Christine McFarland (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park H.S.) and the other off a free position shot. Dallas ended the half down 12-2, losing to Colorado in every category.

The Lady Crusaders played much better in the second half; they held Colorado to only five goals and put in five goals of their own. McFarland was the only Crusader to score in the second half, one being off an assist from Gonzalez. 

McFarland also had seven ground ball pick-ups, five draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Freshman goalie Samantha Mason (Elgin, Ill./Elgin H.S.) was in the goal for the first half where she saved 8 of the 20 shots she faced. Senior goalie Anna Massey (Amarillo, Texas/River Road H.S.) replaced her in the second half, where she saved two of the seven shots she faced.

Dallas 10, Westminster College 16 Boxscore

In the game against Westminster, Dallas once again let the other team take an early lead, falling behind 10-3 at the half. In the first half, sophomore attack Irene Harris (Cockeysvile, Md./Maryvale Preparatory) started the scoring off for Dallas. In the last minute of the half, both sophomore Mary Salotto and McFarland were able to sneak in goals.

The Lady Crusaders came in out of the break ready to fight for the game. Dallas went on a 4-0 goal run, seeing two goals from McFarland, one from Salotto, and one from junior attack Becky Williams (Lyman, S.C./Marianapolis Prep). Soon, the score was 11-8 with Dallas only trailing by three. Unfortunately, Westminster wasn't going to give up easily, as they went on to score the next four goals unanswered by Dallas. The Lady Crusaders were able to put in two more goals before the game ended, but fell, 16-10.

McFarland ended the game with five goals, one assist, one ground ball, two caused turnovers and seven draw controls. Salotto finished with three goals and six draw controlsl, while Williams added three ground ball pick-ups. Junior Teresa Tesoriero (Phoenix, Ariz./Veritas Prep) led the team with two assists -- both to McFarland -- and also had four draw controls.

Mason was Dallas' goalkeeper for the entire game, amassing six saves against 22 shots on goal.

The Lady Crusaders will head to Morristown, N.J., for a Friday, April 10, match-up with College of St. Elizabeth (N.J.). Dallas will also play at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland on Sunday, April 12 to conclude their season.
