Women's Lacrosse battles hard, but falls to Sewanee: The University of the South (Tenn.)

IRVING, Texas - At one of their last home games of the season, the University of Dallas (1-7) came prepared to win, but so did the Tigers of Sewanee: The University of the South, who outscored the Lady Crusaders, 22-7, Tuesday afternoon, at Crusader Field.

In this game, the goals made by Dallas were more evenly spread as opposed to recent contests. Senior midfielder Christine McFarland (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park H.S.) led the team with three; while sophomore attack Mary Salotto (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline H.S.), junior defense Becky Williams (Lyman, S.C./Marianapolis Prep), and junior midfielders Katherine Dautenhahn (Tulsa, Okla./Tulsa School of Arts & Science) and Teresa Tesoriero (Phoenix, Ariz./Veritas Prep) each contributed one goal apiece.

Sewanee controlled the ball for the majority of the game, taking almost twice as many shots as Dallas.

Some of Dallas' field stats include senior defense Kelli Fuentes (Rowlett, Texas/Rowlett H.S.), who had four ground balls and two draw controls, while Tesoriero had three ground balls, one draw control, and two caused turnovers. Dautenhahn had six ground balls and three draw controls; Salotto had two ground balls, three draw controls. Meanwhile, junior defense Julianne Watkins (South Bend, Ind./St. Joseph's H.S.) added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Once again, freshman goalie Samantha Mason (Elgin, Texas/Elgin H.S.) had a great game with some amazing saves, and made eight of 10 clears.

Dallas looks forward to their next home game, against Birmingham–Southern College on Thursday, March 17, at 4:00 p.m., as this marks 'Senior Day' for the squad.
