Women's Lacrosse produces onslaught of goals, but can't reel in Trine University (Ind.)

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas Women's lacrosse team (1-4) was defeated in their home opener at Crusader Field on Sunday against the visiting Trine University (Ind.) Thunder, 19-15.

A goal scorers delight, Dallas and Trine combined for 34 goals in a back-and-forth affair, with the Lady Crusaders netting depositing 15 of their 21 shots on cage for their highest goal output of the season thus far.

Much of the Dallas offense came from senior midfielder Christine McFarland (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park H.S.) and sophomore attack Mary Salotto (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline H.S.). McFarland tallied six goals, while Salotto scored four; with each totaling seven points for the day, coupling assists with their strikes. McFarland also led Dallas in groundballs, amassing seven, helping lead the attack the other way.

Junior midfielder Teresa Tesoriero (Phoenix, Ariz./Veritas Prep) put home two goals for Dallas, as well.

Though the Lady Crusaders outscored the Thunder, 9-8, in the second period, they couldn't overcome an 11-6 Trine advantage at the break.

On the docket next for Dallas is a match on Saturday, March 12, with the visiting Pomona-Pitzer (CA) College Sagehens. The game will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Crusader Field, and can be viewed online via subscription by accessing collegetvticket.com.
