Dallas Lacrosse Drops Home Finale
After falling behind in the first half of their last game Irving game11-2 against the Fontbonne University Griffins, the UD team came together and played the Griffins even in the 15-6 loss.
Down by 3 goals in the early going, sophomore defender/midfielder Teresa Tesoriero (Phoenix, AZ/Veritas Prep) scored her second goal of the year off an assist from junior defender/midfielder Meghan Frost (Bandera, TX/Northshore H.S.). Freshman midfielder/attack Mary Salotto (Salt Lake City, UT/Skyline H.S.) scored the team's second goal of the half on a free position shot before the Fontbonne offense took over. In the second half junior midfielder Christine McFarland (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park Memorial H.S.) led off the scoring for both teams off her free position shot and the deficit was eight. Fontbonne wouldn't go away with 2 more goals before Salotto scored on her second free position shot of the day. The Griffins then put 2 more in before Dallas finished off the scoring with 2 consecutive goals. Salotto scored her final of the game and third of the day near the ten minute mark before McFarland recorded the final goal on a free position shot.
For the day, Salotto led the team in scoring with 3 goals while adding a team leading 3 groundballs, 3 draw controls, and causing a turnover. McFarland had a productive game as well with 2 goals, 2 groundballs, 1 draw control, and 1 caused turnover. Tesoriero and Frost also had banner days as Tesoriero scored a goal, picked up a groundball, and 2 caused turnovers. Frost provided an assist, added a draw control, 2 groundballs, and 2 caused turnovers.
The 2-9 women's lacrosse team is on the road for its final 2 games in Sewanee, TN next weekend. On Saturday, April 24 Dallas takes on LaGrange College at 1:00pm, and on Sunday, April 25 faces host Sewanee at 12:00pm.
