UD Lacrosse Beats Waynesburg University, Loses to St. Vincent’s

Over the weekend, the University of Dallas women's lacrosse traveled to the Pittsburgh, PA area for two games. In the first game on April 9, Dallas faced and defeated the host Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets 17-10 in Waynesburg, PA. Dallas gave their coach a scare several times when they allowed the Yellow Jackets to take the lead. However, UD took control of the game and had two streaks scoring 5 goals in a row and allowing no Waynesburg goals. The star of the game was freshman midfielder Mary Salotto (Salt Lake City, UT/Skyline H.S.) who had 8 goals, 1 assist, 12 ground balls, 2 draw controls, and 4 caused turnovers. Junior midfielder Christine McFarland (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park Memorial H.S.) played characteristically well, contributing 6 goals, 1 assist, 10 ground balls, 3 draw controls, 4 caused turnovers. Junior defense Hanna Piper (Lake Charles, LA/St. Louis Catholic H.S.) had a great game, scoring 1 goal, picking up 3 ground balls, 1 draw control, and causing 2 turnovers. Junior defense Meghan Frost (Bandera, TX/Northshore H.S.) had 2 goals, 4 ground balls, and 3 caused turnovers. Sophomore defense Becky Williams (Lyman, SC/Marianapolis Prep) and Teresa Tesoriero (Phoenix, AZ/Veritas Prep Academy) both had assists to Salotto, Williams also picked up 1 ground ball and Tesoriero 2 draw controls. Overall, the Crusaders all played a strong game, winning the ground ball pick-ups 15-8 and the draw controls 17-11.

Unfortunately, the Crusaders were unable to carry their intensity over to Sunday's game verses the St. Vincent College Bearcats. Dallas simply lost focus and was unable to perform at the highest level they could have, as a result, they lost 6-17. McFarland scored half of Dallas' points with 3 goals and she won 10 draw controls. Salotto contributed 2 goals and 2 ground balls while Frost added one goal and 2 ground ball pick-ups. The Crusaders beat the Bearcats in draw controls 14-11 and junior goalie Anna Massey (Amarillo, TX/River Road H.S.) made 9 saves to their goalie's 5.

The University of Dallas lacrosse team takes the field again this Saturday, this time with a home field advantage and hopefully with a full cheering section of fans. They face Fontbonne University 11:00am on April 17 at their third and final home game.
