UD Women’s Lacrosse Wins First of Year, McFarland Breaks Records

The University of Dallas Crusaders traveled to Birmingham, Alabama looking to improve their 0-5 record. Dallas got their first win of the 2010 season with a 14-9 victory against an under-manned North Central College Cardinals team.

Dallas started the game powerfully, drawing control of the ball from the start and scoring two goals within the first 4 minutes. Christine McFarland (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park Memorial H.S.) and Mary Salotto (Salt Lake City, UT/Skyline H.S.) were the leading scorers. McFarland lead the way with 5 goals in both the first and second halves of the game. McFarland's 10-goal game breaks the UD record of goals scored in a game, and her 10 points also breaks the record for number of points in a game. McFarland also held the previous record of 9 goals and 9 points, which she scored her freshman year against Adrian College. Salotto had 3 of UD's goals, including 1 assist to Teresa Tesoriero (Phoenix, AZ/Veritas Prep) who scored the first goal of her lacrosse career.

Dallas trailed North Central in ground balls, picking up 9 to their 12. The draw controls was where Dallas really controlled the game, winning 21 of the draw controls to North Central's 4. McFarland led the team with 6 groundballs, 10 draw controls, and 1 caused turnover. Salotto had 5 draw controls and Tesoriero recorded 1 draw control, 1 ground ball, and 1 caused turnover.

The lacrosse team takes on Birmingham-Southern College next on Friday, March 26 at 7:00pm and then Carthage College on Saturday, March 27 at 2:00pm.
