Burch Takes First at Tempest Intercollegiate for First Individual Title in Program History

September 12, 2023

GLADEWATER, Texas - The University of Dallas women's golf team wrapped up play in the Tempest Intercollegiate on Tuesday, finsihing as the runners up in the field of six teams.  The hosts and team champions, LeTourneau, pulled away from the Crusaders, extending their lead to 15 strokes after finishing day one up by just four strokes.  But the Crusaders maintained a comfortable cushion between them and third place MUW, who finished 30 strokes behind.

Kimberly Burch was one stroke behind the leader, Hannah Newell, along with teammate Lauren Waltzer going into round two.  A pair of double bogeys by Newell and a birdie by Burch would be enough to give Burch the lead just four holes into her round, and she would not relinquish that lead as she held on to win the individual title by one stroke, the first ever individual title for UD women's golf.

Lauren Waltzer dropped two spots with an 88 in round two, but her fourth place finish earned her all-tournament honors for the first time in her career.

Clair Kirby was a big mover for UD, climbing six spots to crack the top 10 with an 81 in round two.  Madi Meduna climbed a couple of spots to finish in 14th at +31 for the tournament, and Gabby Ramirez rounded out the field for the Crusaders tied for 20th at +37.
