Women's Golf in Fifth After Texas Cup Opening Round

RICHARDSON, Texas - The University of Dallas women's golf team wrapped up day one of competition in the Texas Cup on Sunday.  Through 18 holes, the Crusaders are in fifth place at +64 for the tournament, sitting with a two stroke lead over East Texas Baptist and Whitman College, and 20 strokes behind fourth place LeTourneau.  The hosts, University of Texas-Dallas (UTD), are in the lead at +21 with a 10 stroke lead over second place Trinity.

Kimberly Burch leads the pack for UD, as she sits in fourth place after a 77 in her opening round.  She is surrounded by ranked opponents, the rest of the top five completely comprised of individuals ranked in the top 50 golfers in the nation.  She is second in Par 5 scoring at -1, and fourth in the field with three birdies.

Madi Meduna, Claire Kirby, and Gabby Ramirez are all tightly packed within one stroke of each other.  Meduna is T33 with a 91, while Kirby and Ramirez are T36 having both shot a 92 in round one.  Lauren Waltzer rounds out the field for Dallas, sitting in 51st with a +40 on the day.  

Round two is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start tomorrow, March 20.
