Crusaders Take Second at The Whitney

WHITNEY, Texas - The University of Dallas women's golf team wrapped up competition in their spring home event, The Whitney, on Tuesday.  The Crusaders finished in second place, matching their best ever finish in an event, behind 11th ranked Pomona-Pitzer with a final score of 718.  They held a 27 stroke lead over Texas Lutheran and a 32 stroke lead over East Texas Baptist.

Kimberly Burch nearly cracked the top 6, which was dominated by all five of Pomona-Pitzer's top 100 ranked golfers, with a superb turnaround on day two.  After an uncharacteristically rough outing in round one, Burch shaved 17 strokes off her score to shoot a 76, just one stroke from matching her program low record of 75.  She climbed two spots on the leaderboard to finish one stroke behind Claire Whisenant of Pomona-Pitzer, who is the 83rd ranked individual in the country.

Madi Meduna dropped one place to ninth with an 88, and though Lauren Walzter cut nine strokes from her round one score, she stayed put at 10th place with an 85 in round two.

Gabby Ramirez was a stroke better from round one, but dropped two places to 14th with a 97 in round two.  Claire Kirby endured a similar fate, dropping down three spots to T16 despite shaving a stroke off with a 98 in round two.
