Crusaders Fall to Austin College
February 10, 2024
SHERMAN, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team lost their conference matchup against Austin College 60-45 on Saturday, falling to 13-11 on the year and 7-8 in conference play.
Dallas came out cold and the Roos came out red hot to start the game. Though the Crusaders had a narrow 8-5 lead midway through the first quarter, they went scoreless for the next three and a half minutes, going 0-of-7 from the field in the process. The Roos were moving in the opposite direction, as they finished the quarter a perfect 7-of-7 from the field to go into the second quarter with a 20-12 lead.
The second quarter wasn't particularly great for the Roos, but it was disastrous for the Crusaders as they shot just seven percent, going 1-of-14 from the field. Austin didn't have to shoot all that well to go into halftime with a 16-point cushion, and that first half deficit would ultimately be too much for Dallas to overcome.
Despite faring much better in the second half, going 11-of-33 (33%) from the field and 3-of-8 (37.5%) from beyond the arc, both of which outperformed Austin, Dallas was never able to cut into the deficit. Though the Roos shot just 23% from the field in the second half, they kept Dallas at bay by going 14-of-18 (78%) from the free throw line.
Taylor Rawls led the team with 11 points, going 4-of-8 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
