Crusaders Fall to TLU on the Road

December 30, 2023

SEGUIN, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team lost their conference game against Texas Lutheran 83-58 on Saturday, dropping to 9-6 overall on the year and 3-3 in conference play.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead, going 5-of-7 from the field in the first two and a half minutes.  The Crusaders were 2-of-4, but turned the ball over twice in that same span, prompting a timeout called by head coach Bri Sims with Dallas down 11-4.

From there, the Crusaders were left chasing TLU for the remainder of the game.  Dallas cut the deficit to five points midway through the second quarter, and that would be as close as they got to tying the game up as TLU continued to build on their lead.

Though Dallas shot above their season average on the night, shooting 36.4% from the field, they had just 55 field goal attempts, their second fewest attempts in a game this season and 10 fewer than their season average.

It was an off-night for what is normally one of the better teams in the paint in the conference.  TLU had a nearly +30 rebound margin and 24 second chance points to Dallas' two.  Going into tonight, Dallas had the third highest average rebound margin in the conference at +1.7, behind only TLU (+3.6) and Colorado College (9.8).

Taylor Rawls led the Crusaders with 12 points, going 5-of-7 from the field as she continues to be one of Dallas' most efficient and steady producers.  She is the only player on the team to average at least six points a game (6.9) while shooting over 40% from the field (44.9%) this season.
