UD Hall of Famer, Ashley Smith Casias, Passes Away

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Dallas mourns the loss of Alum and UD Athletics Hall of Famer Ashley Smith Casias, who passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023.  She was 48 years old.

Casias was inducted into the UD Hall of Fame in the class of 2004, playing three sports for the Crusaders from 1994-1997.  At one point, she held four school records for the women's basketball team, and was either top five or top 10 in a slew of other categories spanning basketball, soccer, and volleyball.

After graduating from UD, she received her M.S. from McDaniel College in Maryland and would go on to serve as the head women's basketball coach at Texas Lutheran University for several years.  She is survived by her husband, Charles Casias of San Antonio, TX; her father, Ballard L. Smith of Shreveport; and two aunts, Sharon M. Honeycutt and Linda S. Dupuis. She is also survived by two step-brothers, Bryan Krippendorf and James Eric Krippendorf and a step-sister, Ruth K. Ray.
