Women's Basketball Edged Out by Colorado College
IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team lost their conference match with Colorado College 58-56 on Friday. They fall to 8-11 overall on the year and 4-7 in conference play.
The Tigers started the game oh for their first three shots, allowing the Crusaders to take the very early lead with a three-pointer by Ashley Hall. Colorado soon answered back, taking a 4-3 lead three minutes into the game, leaving Dallas chasing from then on.
Dallas picked up the pace in the second half, trying to circumvent the relentless full-court press by Colorado. They hung tight with the Tigers and pulled themselves within two points midway through the period. With a little burst in the final minutes of the period, the Tigers were able to take a seven-point advantage into halftime.
The Crusaders got off to a slow start in the third quarter, but came roaring back in the final minutes of the period. MK Pendergraft got hot at the right time, going a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc to give the Crusaders the 41-39 lead going into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter was a back and forth battle to start, with four lead changes in the first four minutes. With the game tied at 51-51 and just over two minutes to play, Colorado took the lead for what would be the last time with a pair of free throws and 40 seconds left on the clock. With Dallas forced to foul, the TIgers iced the game by going 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the final minute.
Maria Dicenta led the team with 13 points, going 6-of-9 from the free throw line. Pendergraft finished the game wiith 12 points, setting a new career-high.
