Crusaders Fall to Southwestern in Overtime

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team lost their conference match with Southwestern University 71-67 in overtime on Saturday.  They fall to 7-10 overall on the year and 3-6 in conference play.

The Crusaders started off cold and fell behind early, with the Pirates leading by 10 after six minutes.  Southwestern took that 10 point lead into the second quarter, where Dallas was able to cut into the deficit thanks to a 3-of-7 shooting performance from deep.

Though Southwestern sominated the boards in the second quarter, outrebounding Dallas 15-3, they made just three field goals the entire period, clinging to a four-point lead at halftime.

Dallas carried that momentum into the third quarter, going 8-of-14 from the field and 3-of-6 from deep for 21 points.  The Pirates continued to struggle from long range, now 0-of-5 across the second and third quarters, but it was still a tight game.  Dallas managed to take the lead, but only just, going into the fourth quarter up 46-45.

Southwestern reclaimed the lead with the first basket of the fourth quarter and nearly held onto it until the final buzzer, as Dallas went cold.  The Pirates led by as many as nine points in the fourth quarter, but failed to score at all in the final four minutes, allowing the Crusaders to come back and send the game to overtime with a game-tying three-pointer by Adryan Alvarez in the final minute.

The Crusaders fought tooth and nail, but couldn't quite finish when they needed it most, going 2-of-11 from the field in the overtime period.  The Pirates did just enough to squeak by with the four-point win.

Jordan Gillespie led the team with 13 points and all players with 16 rebounds, recording the first double-double of her collegiate career.  Caroline Croft was right behind with 12 points and recorded five assists for the fifth time this season.
