Women's Basketball Edged Out By LeTourneau

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team lost their non-conference match with Letourneau University 80-78 on Saturday.  They fall to 1-2 on the year with two games remaining on their preseason schedule.

Play was tight in the first period with five lead changes in the first six and half minutes.  The Crusaders made good on their chances from the free throw line, going 8-8 to give themselves the 21-17 lead going into the second period.

A cold second period by Dallas let LeTourneau back into the game, as they went on to outscore the Crusaders 18-8 and take a 35-29 lead into halftime.

From there, it was anybody's game.  LeTourneau took their biggest lead of the game a minute and a half into the third period at 41-31, but Dallas went on a 13-1 run to reclaim the lead for the first time in 10 minutes.  The two sides traded blows and the lead for the next two minutes, with LETU scoring six unanswered points in the final two minutes to give themselves a 54-48 lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Crusaders nearly leveled the game up, fighting their way back to within one point with 22 seconds remaining.  Dallas had other chances in the final two minutes to tie the game or cut into the deficit, but the last chance fell to Adryan Alvarez with nine seconds remaining.  She was met with heavy resistance from the Yellow Jackets in the paint, who would keep her out and hang on for the win.

Alvarez lead all players with a career-high 30 points, going 15-19 from the free throw line and 7-19 from the field.  Caroline Croft was two boards from her first double-double with 13 points and eight rebounds.  Imani Hardin was also two boards from a double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds.  Tessa hastings provided 13 points and five rebounds off the bench, going 3-6 from three and 2-2 from the free throw line.
