Hot Start Not Enough for Crusaders in Season Opener

LONGVIEW, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team dropped their season opener to LeTourneau University this evening, losing to the Yellowjackets 77-63.

The Crusaders hung with Yellowjackets point for point for much of game, even taking an 18-16 lead into the second quarter.  But LETU established their lead by outscoring the Crusaders 21-13 in the second and fourth quarters.  Despite the end result, there were many positives to take away, not the least of which was a 26 point performance by Canai McPherson in her competitve debut for the Crusaders.

As a team, the Crusaders were better at finishing their chances than their opponents, shooting 37% from the field and 20% from beyond the arc, compared to 36% and 15% for LeTourneau.  The Yellowjackets simply had a higher volume of shots, and did well enough to limit open looks for the Crusaders.

Alyssa Sullivan and Maylin Stampley each had 11 points in the game, with Sullivan two boards away from recording a double-double.
