UD Women's Basketball Falls at Colorado College on Saturday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Dallas women's basketball team was defeated 91-65 in the first game of a weekend two-game set at Colorado College. The Crusaders (3-6, 3-6 SCAC) outscored the Tigers in the opening quarter, but that was all for the road team the rest of the way as a 12-point halftime deficit deepened as the game went on.

Colorado College (6-1, 6-1 SCAC) continued its push for holding the top spot in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) as it remains the only one-loss school and has the highest win percentage.

After allowing the first basket to the Tigers, Camille Fowler (Helotes, Texas) drained a three-pointer to give UD a brief lead. Beyonce Perry (Lake Jackson, Texas) had assisted her and the duo teamed up again, but this time flipped roles as Perry's try made it 6-5. After a basket from Imani Hardin (Helotes, Texas) made it 8-5, the Tigers scored nine straight for their largest lead of the game just past the midway juncture in the frame.

UD chipped away as consecutive three-pointers by Perry swung the lead back to the guests. She had seven straight points and Hardin's layup rounded out the 21 scored in first quarter.

The start of the second had sides exchanging points, but a three by Talia Cloud made it a one-point game and sparked a 10-0 run. Both sides had gone quiet from 5:55 to 2:28 in the game. CC ended up outscoring Dallas 21-7 in the second and that set the tone the rest of the way.

Anika Herron (Coppell, Texas) was the team's top scorer with 16 points on 5-for-7 field goal shooting and was 4-for-5 from downtown. Perry followed with 13, which 11 came in that big first quarter stated above. Alyssa Sullivan (Wylie, Texas) rounded out the double-digit scoring trio with 11 points. Hardin and Amber Turner (Rogers, Ark.) led the team with nine rebounds apiece for a game-high total.

Dallas was outshot from the field 45.1 percent to 37.1 percent. Both teams reached double-digits for made three-pointers. The Tigers won the battle on the glass 48-32 which led to a 19-10 difference in second chance points. The noticeable difference was CC's 29-8 edge on points off turnovers even though Dallas committed just three less.

Colorado College was led by McKenzee Gertz with 23 points and seven rebounds. Audrey Bayston had 18 and Anna Fanelli and Cloud each tossed in 11.

The team's combined for 13 blocked shots with eight by the Tigers.

These teams will wrap up the regular season tomorrow with a tip-off at 12 p.m. (MST) local time.
