Schreiner Grabs Game 1 on Friday over UD Women's Basketball

KERRVILLE, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team dropped a 76-46 result at Schreiner University to start its two-game road trip off. Dallas was limited to four points through almost 12 minutes of the game and despite recovering from a double-digit deficit once to trail by five at halftime; the Mountaineers (5-0, 5-0 SCAC) were able to remain unblemished on the year with the home win by pulling away by 15 after three quarters and never saw a threat.

UD (2-5, 2-5 SCAC) shot 24.1 percent from the field overall and made four three-pointers. The team also shot 53.3 percent at the free throw line.

The Crusaders did compete in the first quarter and kept the score at a 6-4 deficit through the midway juncture of the frame. Schreiner would go on a scoring streak to finish up 13-4 at the first horn. UD did crawl back in the next period with a late triple by Beyonce Perry (Lake Jackson, Texas) to make it a three-point deficit (24-21). However, Schreiner's Gabby Ivarra grabbed an offensive rebound and had the putback to close the half out with her team up five. That lead stretched to 15 after a 10-point expansion in the third and then another five point span in the fourth to finish the third straight home win for SU.

Perry matched a team scoring high of 13 points. Imani Hardin (Helotes, Texas) was the other Crusader in double-digits with that amount. The duo were also tops on the boards with Hardin gathering eight and Perry following with seven. UD's top scoring trio of Camille Fowler (Helotes, Texas), Amber Turner (Rogers, Ark.), and Alyssa Sullivan (Wylie, Texas) was limited to nine points.

Schreiner was led by Zahra Cross with 18 points. Sydney Williams and Ivarra notched a double-double with Williams tallying 13 points and a team-most 14 boards. Ivarra had 13 points and 10 boards. Arrianna Faulks chipped in 10 points from the bench.

These teams battle again on Saturday with a 1 p.m. tip-off.
