UD Women's Basketball Falls at Southwestern on Saturday

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team fell 70-38 on Saturday at Southwestern University. After trailing by two at the end of one quarter, the Crusaders (3-12, 1-7 SCAC) allowed their opposition to take a commanding 31-13 lead into halftime thanks to a 19-3 difference in the second frame.

The Pirates (5-11, 3-6 SCAC) finished off their successful 2-0 weekend after an upset on No. 20 Austin College on Friday. In Saturday's win, the home squad outshot UD 48.2 percent (27-56) to 25 percent (13-52). They also protected the rim making 11 blocked shots.

Dallas trailed 5-0 until Madi Horne (Paradise, Texas) made a free throw at 6:47. Over a minute passed and the freshman hit a triple to bring the score to one. The Pirates went up 10-4 and Dallas answered with six points within the final two minutes, although they never led. Rhyan Colbert (McKinney, Texas) brought the margin to 10-8, but SU's Cecily Woolfolk answered with a layup in the final 17 seconds and Panda Houseworth (Farmersville, Texas) dished an assist to Gracie Williams (Midwest, Okla.) for the final basket to keep the game tight.

Southwestern tallied a 6-0 run over a minute and 20 seconds to start the next period. Zhazze Brown made a trey to open a double-digit lead (21-10) at 6:05. Another triple by Lauren Fulenwider extended the gap at the midway point. The Crusaders struck back with a three by Horne to make it an 11-point margin, but it was their only points that 10-minute span as SU notched the last seven points.

Dallas scored its highest point-total in a quarter with 19 in the third but allowed 22 to its opposition. The team put up a 5-8 shooting effort, making both three-point attempts and going 7-10 from the charity stripe. Houseworth logged all nine points in that quarter.

Horne led the team with 12 points and grabbed six rebounds to go with a personal-best five steals. Jules Oliveti (Southlake, Texas) pulled in nine rebounds, with four on the offensive glass.

A quartet of players for the Pirates claimed double figures led by Woolfolk with 23. She added 11 boards for the double-double. Noel Pratts (14), Brown (13), and Lauren Fulenwider (11) rounded out the scoring unit. Woolfolk and Reece Sandercock each posted four blocked shots. The Pirates held advantages on the glass 35-27, points in the paint (38-10), points off turnovers (28-14), and assists (15-8).
