Crusaders Fall to Texas Lutheran in SCAC Action

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team fell to Texas Lutheran University 79-36 on Friday night. The Crusaders (2-20, 1-12 SCAC) were within 10 points at the halftime break (34-24), but were outscored 45-12 in the second half. TLU (15-7, 11-2 SCAC) was led by Abby Hroch who finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. The Bulldogs shot 31-72 (43.1 percent) and got 43 points from the bench to maintain a three-way tie in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) standings.

TLU started the game with a 7-2 lead. Faith Starnes (Bryan, Texas) then hit a three-pointer followed by a Jules Oliveti (Southlake, Texas) made jump shot to tie the game at seven. TLU hit back-to-back treys of their own to regain the lead. Gracie Williams (Midwest City, Okla.) hit a big shot from behind the arc (13-10) to get UD closer. The Bulldogs then ended the first frame on a 7-0 run to find a 20-10 lead.

Dallas fell behind 26-12 in the second period but made a small run to inch closer. Oliveti and Starnes both hit key shots to pull Dallas within nine points. Dallas did not let the lead get out of reach as they made shots at the right moments. Williams and Olivia Severson (La Crosse, Wis.) helped UD stay in the game with made buckets and only be down by 10 points at halftime.

TLU started the second half with an 18-0 run, as they outscored Dallas 26-6 in the third quarter. Gracie Williams scored all six points for UD in that period. TLU took a 60-30 lead into the final period.

Kasey Hairell and Jordan Estrada had seven and six points, respectively, to lead the Bulldogs in the final period. The Crusaders were held to six points in the final quarter, as TLU left Irving with the win.

Bryanna Delgado and Hairell followed Hroch's outing with 11 points each. Hairell led the team with eight rebounds and three blocks. TLU scored 26 points in the paint and scored 20 points off of turnovers. The Bulldogs went 8-10 from the free throw line on the night.

Williams led UD with 14 points. Starnes notched seven points and six rebounds. Oliveti finished with six points and 11 boards. Faith Weisbruch (Temple, Texas) added a career-high six points and seven rebounds in a hustling effort. 

TLU won the rebound battle 49-34.
