FIRST TIP

The University of Dallas women's basketball team plays its final game of the regular season at the Maher Center on Saturday. It will be a showdown with Colorado College starting at 1 p.m. The Crusaders are coming off two setbacks last weekend at Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University.

Dallas is 10-14 overall and 2-11 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings. Coming into the final contest of the season, the Crusaders are tied with Centenary College and Colorado College is one game out at 1-12.

A win on Saturday clinches the sixth and final seed for the SCAC Tournament for Dallas. Even if Centenary defeats Austin College, the Crusaders own the tiebreaker with a 2-0 season series sweep. If Dallas falls to the Tigers and Centenary loses, then there will be a three-way tie. The way the tiebreaker would be decided is on a coin toss that would determine the final seeding, since each team would have only won its two games against the schools in the deadlock.

UD NOTES

- Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) remains the top scorer (15.5) and rebounder (10.3) on the team and ranks 2nd in both categories for the SCAC rankings. The forward also cracks the top five in the leaderboard with a 51.3 field goal percentage (4th).

- DeCoud leads the conference in blocked shots with 54. She broke the school record a month ago at home against Schreiner University. The previous record was 44 by Jo Lewis during the 1993-94 campaign. Additionally, the team surpassed the season blocks record at home two weeks ago with 87. That tops the previous mark by three, which was done in 2008-09.

- Seana Stoia (Monument, Colo.) reached 1,000 career points last Friday at Southwestern. She is averaging 13.2 points and is the other player above double-digits. She is also second on the team with 179 rebounds.

- Stoia is 4th in the league with a 36.4 three-point field goal percentage.

- Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) continues her personal best season in assists with 129. She leads the conference with 5.6 per contest. The next closest player is Grace Horn at Trinity University with 86 (3.6).

- Helen Onyenso (Oak Park, Ill.) has chipped in 29 points and 30 boards off the bench in the past four games.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

Colorado College is 2-22 overall and 1-12 in conference play. The Tigers lone win this season was at the Reid Arena in December against Dallas. Since that 51-46 final, Colorado College has dropped its past 14. The Tigers are 1-8 on the road and closing the year on a three-game trip.

In the most recent outing, the Tigers fell in overtime at Southwestern 67-59. After going on a 12-4 run to lead 57-54 in the fourth quarter, the Pirates tied the game with a three and 11 seconds remaining. Evan Underbrink scored 18 points in the setback.

Casey Torbet paces the offense with 266 points and 11.1 points-per-game (ppg). Payton Katich, Christina Bowman, and Jordan Meltzer round out the top four scorers with 173, 158, and 136 points, respectively. Nia Duplain leads the team on the glass with 128. Torbet is the team leader in assists and steals with 98 and 36, respectively.

Colorado College Season Stats

In the matchup at Colorado Springs, both squads shot below 30 percent. Dallas was led by DeCoud with 12 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks. Stoia added nine points and seven rebounds. The Tigers were led by Meltzer and Torbet in scoring with 12 and 11. Meltzer grabbed 10 boards.

Last season Dallas won 69-46 at home against the Tigers. Gendron scored 13 points and DeCoud claimed a double-double with 11 points and rebounds. Worry scored nine points off the bench.
