Women's Basketball falls at Texas Lutheran in Final Regular Season Away Game
SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team was defeated 68-49 on Saturday at Texas Lutheran University. Early deficits in the first pair of quarters proved to be too much for Dallas (10-14, 2-11 SCAC) to overcome in its final regular season road game. The 2nd place Bulldogs (19-5, 11-2 SCAC) outscored their opposition by 12 (23-11) in the opening quarter and 11 (22-11) in the next 10 minutes prior to halftime. Dallas trailed 45-22 at the break.
NOTABLE STATISTICS
(Individual Notes)
- Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) produced her 11th double-double this season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Both categories led the team, as she scored 10 and grabbed seven in the 2nd half.
- Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) followed with nine points. Six of them came from the charity stripe as the recent 1,000-career point holder went perfect there.
- Helen Onyenso (Oak Park, Ill.) also eclipsed double-digits on the glass with 10 for a season-best. She added five points, as her and Celsi Caraway (Arlington, Texas) combined for 13-of-18 bench points.
- Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) dished five assists (15 contest with at least as many) to go with six points.
- Texas Lutheran was led by Savannah Hight with 15 points and Cierra Jordan with 13. Kristen Lye, the current SCAC Player of the Week, was held to nine points.

-Dallas was outshot 39.1 percent to 33.3 percent. TLU hit 7-of-22 (31.8%) of three-pointers while its opponent was 21.4 percent (3-14).
- Dallas missed 12 free throws, going 10-for-22.
- UD did boast a small advantage on points in the paint 22-20.
- The Bulldogs earned slight edges on the boards (44-40) and fewer turnovers (17-13).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs scored a three-pointer from Hight and never trailed from the onset of the contest. DeCoud did respond for Dallas' first points with a layup about a minute and a half into the game. However, Texas Lutheran rattled off the next 10 points to surge ahead 13-2 just past the midway juncture of the first. A few moments later, Bailey Champion drained a trey making it 18-5. The Crusaders cut the deficit to 12 on a layup by Tonry with 18 seconds to make it a 23-11 game.
In the next quarter. The Crusaders repeated their offensive output with 11 points, while TLU matched that total for the first overall amount of points in the frame. The Bulldogs drained a trio of threes for nine of those points. UD's leading scorer, DeCoud, ended the drought with a layup at 6:20. TLU kept up the hot shooting though.
The two-loss Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) team shot 9-of-18 from the floor in the entire second quarter, while opening the largest difference in the game at the time by 23. This happened on three occasions, including the halftime score.
Texas Lutheran's lead ballooned to its greatest margin in the third quarter with a 56-26 display at 6:48. After that difference happened a second time near the end of the frame, Caraway scored an and-one and Stoia kept her perfect mark at the charity stripe alive with two more free throws to close a 5-0 stretch.
Dallas sprung with the momentum through the final 10 minutes as an early two by the opponent was met with eight points in a row to extend a 13-2 run over seven minutes between two quarters. DeCoud capped the run with a layup making it 64-44 about midway through the last stanza. Still, even the cold spell for the Bulldogs did not distraught them from seeing their home record from improving to 9-1.
UP NEXT
Dallas wraps up conference play and the regular season with Colorado College on February 18 at 1 p.m. in the Maher Center. It will be a showdown for the remaining seed to qualify for the SCAC Tournament. A win clinches it for the Crusaders.
