No. 16 Trinity blows past Crusaders
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – It was a difficult day for the University of Dallas women's basketball team, falling 84-44 at No. 16 Trinity University. Dallas (9-11, 1-8 SCAC) closes January with its fourth setback in a row. The Crusaders did compete well with the nationally ranked Tigers (18-1, 7-1 SCAC) through most of the first half. After trailing by five through one quarter, and even taking a brief lead two and a half minutes into the second frame (26-24), Dallas allowed the home team to roll to a 51-32 halftime advantage.
STAT NOTABLES

- Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) posted her 5th performance to break 20 points with a 21 result. That tied the amount the senior earned in a game for 3rd time this campaign. Stoia shot 9-of-11 from the field and grabbed five rebounds.
- Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) matched seven points with as many rebounds (team-high) and dished four assists. Her quartet tied Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.), who lost her streak of five or more assists at seven straight games. DeCoud ended her double figure scoring stretch at 10.
- Celsi Caraway (Arlington, Texas) added eight points and Helen Onyenso (Oak Park, Ill.) scored six for all of the team's 14 bench points.
- Trinity was led by Micah Weaver with 18 points and eight rebounds. A quartet of Tiger starters reached double-digits including: Allison Staley (15), Monica Holguin (14), and Abby Holland (10).
- Grace Horn is the other starter and she dished six dimes. Rachel Chavez led the reserves with eight points.

- Trinity held advantages in all shooting categories going 41.2 percent compared to UD's 32.7 percent. The Tigers made 10 three-pointers compared to Dallas' four, and were 18-for-26 (69.2%) at the free throw line. Dallas shot 4-for-7 at the line.
- The Crusaders scored a slight advantage on points in the paint 26-24.
- Turnovers were the story again as Trinity forced 29 and etched a 42-7 difference in points from the miscues. Fastbreak points were 14-4 in favor of TU.
- The Tigers held a 44-32 edge in rebounds, and boasted a 21-7 in second chance points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Top 25 Trinity scored the first five points, before Stoia cut the deficit to a pair on a three-point play about a minute and a half in. The Tigers were scorching from distance as three-of-four shots to start the contest were from that range and resulted in an eight-point advantage.
Dallas pulled within two (16-14) by going on an 11-2 run with nine unanswered. Caraway had the last five in that surge, including a trifecta on the final play. TU countered with five straight points, but Caraway sank another trey and Trinity closed the first quarter up 22-17 with a Holguin free throw in the last minute.
It appeared the Crusaders gained momentum in as they started the second on another 9-0 to go in front 26-24 at 7:30 after Stoia put down a layup. A UD possession before, the senior forward drained a three to tie the contest at 24. She had the last seven points of that run, as Caraway concluded her eight-point streak (all points in the game) to start the spurt.
The home team had a trio of three-pointers in a row help swing the momentum. Staley started the big surge with a three that resulted in a lead change. DeCoud pulled the Crusaders even by splitting at the line, but a final lead swap occurred with Weaver dialing back-to-back trifectas. Weaver added a layup to give her eight straight and Holland's jumper at 4:24 opened Trinity's first double-digit lead of the game. Since the tied juncture, Trinity had orchestrated a 17-0 run.
Dallas trailed largely after the floodgates opened and did not recover. UD was outscored 33-12 in the next half including a 21-4 third quarter.
