Schreiner's late Basket nips Crusaders on Friday
KERRVILLE, Texas – A field goal with six seconds left by Schreiner University's Sabriyyah Fennell capped a 10-2 run in under the final two and a half minutes, and dropped the University of Dallas women's basketball team in tough 51-50 final on Friday night. The Crusaders (9-10, 1-7 SCAC) gained the lead on the first points of the fourth quarter and clamped down on defense to keep Schreiner (7-11, 6-2 SCAC) scoreless until Fennell drained a three-pointer with 2:24 to go in regulation. From there, the home squad rallied back and sent Dallas to its third straight loss and first time beneath .500 since starting 0-1 in the season opener.
The 51 points tie a season-low allowed against an opponent in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). The other matchup was in December at Colorado College in a 51-46 setback.

- Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) led the Crusaders with 20 points and made nine field goals. The team's leading scorer eclipsed 20 points for the 4th time on the campaign.
- Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) also recorded double figures with 12 points. She was 7-of-10 shooting from the free throw line.
- The top scoring tandem matched team-highs on the boards with seven apiece.
- Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) dished five assists, swiped four steals, and added six points behind Caitlyn Worry's (Lumberton, Texas) seven.
- Schreiner was led by Cassandra Aleman with 12 points and Fennell followed with 10. Jordyn Villa garnered a game-high eight rebounds.

- Neither team shot well with Dallas slightly higher going 38.8 percent (19-49) compared to 35.3 percent (18-51). Each side had exactly 10 free throws made, with UD getting two extra attempts with 14.
- Dallas won the battle on the boards 34-31 and dished more assists 13-11.
- Schreiner forced 19 turnovers, while committing 15. This led to a 20-7 favor on in the points off miscues for the Mountaineers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Schreiner raced out to a quick lead under two minutes with the first five points coming from Codi Simmons and Aleman on a jumper and three-pointer, respectively. UD got on the board with the first-of-two made shots at the charity stripe by Stoia with 7:36 in the first quarter. DeCoud's three consecutive jumpers on the next trio of Dallas possessions lifted the squad to its first lead at 7-5 with 5:30.
Schreiner ended the remaining frame an 11-4 scoring stretch to going into the first break up 16-11. Dyamond Puebla evened the score seven-all and had five of the team's next eight points. Fennell's trey that signaled the second lead change made it 10-7 and was the other recorded points in that span. Brianna Lane nailed a trifecta of her own with 13 seconds remaining to conclude quarter.
In the second quarter, the home team extended its lead to the greatest margin of the game at nine (22-13) with 7:54 on a Lane three. UD's Stoia connected on one of the two three-pointers and then Tonry followed with a layup after a DeCoud block got a stop about midway through. Tonry's field goal cut things to four, and then Worry got a trey to drop at 3:30 and bring the gap to 22-21. DeCoud launched Dallas back ahead with the next four points on back-to-back jumper and cap a 12-0 scoring surge. After an exchange of points, Tonry had the final shot with a buzzer beater to lift the Crusaders into halftime 29-28.
That momentum carried into the third quarter as Stoia made four free throws and DeCoud added a layup for the first six points in five and a half minutes. The 35-28 edge was the largest lead for UD. Villa's pair at the charity stripe ended the Mountaineers' drought, and some timely shots got them back up 41-40 after 30 minutes completed. DeCoud made a pair of free throws in the last 10 seconds to cut the score to one.
DeCoud had the first points of the final quarter, and switched the leader of the game the rest of the time until the last basket made. Stoia hit from the line twice and DeCoud chimed in with another jumper. That was right around six minutes, as both squads went quite for over three minutes. DeCoud had her sixth points out of the eight in the frame with 2:46 left to give the Crusaders a 48-41 advantage.
Schreiner's hero splashed a three to end the dry spell and Aleman had the next five points for the Maroon and White. After a layup traded by her and Tonry, the team's leading scorer drew a foul on a layup to make it a potential three-point play. She made at the line and it was 50-49 Dallas up with 34 seconds. A turnover resulted for the Crusaders and Fennell found the bottom of the net after Villa passed inside on what was the game winner.
