Women's Basketball unable to slow No. 16 Trinity University
IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team dropped a 76-61 decision to No. 16 Trinity University on Sunday Afternoon. Dallas (9-9, 1-6 SCAC) finished the three game home stand with two setbacks in SCAC play. The top 25 ranked Tigers (16-1, 5-1 SCAC) took advantage of 32 turnovers that helped lead to 31 points. This included 21 in the first half.
NOTABLE STATISTICS

- Celsi Caraway (Arlington, Texas) tied a career-high 15 points from her season opener at Hendrix College. The freshman reached double-digits for the 1st time in a conference game and 4th time overall.
- Caraway was 5-of-7 from the floor and made a season-high three three-pointers. That accounted for half of the team's successful treys.
- Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) tossed in 13 points for her 9th consecutive game to reach double figures. Her five assists set a new personal most. Her pair of blocks tied her with Jo Lewis for individaul seaosn record (44).
- Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) did reach a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds (game-high). It was her 2nd in conference and 5th overall.
- Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) garnered eight boards and six assists.
- Micah Weaver led all scorers with 23 points and Trinity in rebounding with seven. Monica Holguin eclipsed double-digits in points (12), and Allison Staley made a trio of long distant field goals to account for all nine points and three of TU's five treys.
- A quartet of players achieved at least four steals led by Weaver with six. Grace Horn (5), Holguin (4), and Rebecca Gordon (4) complete the group with fast hands.

- Both teams shot nearly the same, as the Tigers were 42.9 percent from the field compared to UD's 40 percent.
- The home team shot 83.3 (15-18) percent from the free throw line. For UD, in past three-of-four contests, the squad has made that exact amount at the charity stripe and six times overall.
- Trinity edged Dallas on the boards 41-29 and with points in the paint by 20 (42-20).
- There was a 27-13 difference in points on the fastbreak favoring the Tigers. 23 steals helped the road team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The top 25 ranked opponent led and never looked back as Holland scored the first points after a Weaver steal led to the layup. Holguin picked up a steal of her own and took the ball the length of the floor to double the edge. Dallas got on the board with two Stoia free throws at 8:44 and nipped the margin in half. However, the Maroon and Gold scored six-of-eight points including the final four in a row to build a 12-4 advantage nearly midway through the opening quarter. Trinity led by no more than eight in that frame, but ended ahead 21-13 and forced 10 turnovers. Eight of those points also were on the fastbreak.
The second quarter favored the Crusaders 17-16, and was the lone time the home team edged their opposition in a 10-minute span. It was two minutes before Dallas got its first field goal, which was a jumper by DeCoud. That ended a 7-1 scoring stretch that propelled the guests up by 14. The Tigers were cold for the next four minutes and UD worked at narrowing the gap with nine unanswered. Helen Onyenso (Oak Park, Ill.) made a jumper between DeCoud field goals, and then Caraway posted a trey. Her first one to cap the run made it 28-23 with five minutes before halftime. After Trinity's Gordon ended the drought with a layup, Caraway dialed another three and made it a four-point game. The rookie concluded her eight-point second quarter with a fastbreak jumper near the end of the stanza. This resulted in a 37-30 Trinity lead at intermission. Caraway had 12 points at this juncture.
Trinity went up by 10 again over the first three minutes of the next half. Two free throws by Holland started the run and then she finished a layup after gaining a steal. Weaver capped the streak on a jumper that did result in a UD turnover on the previous play. Weaver had another jumper at 3:45 to balloon the Tigers' largest lead of the game at 15 (53-38). Caitlyn Worry (Lumberton, Texas) responded with her lone three-pointer of the game to give Dallas its first points in three minutes since Stoia collected an old fashioned three-point play.
The Crusaders trailed by 11 at the end of the third, and received bad news as Caraway left due to an injury. With the team's leading scorer out, the Tigers kept pulling away in the fourth and secured the 15-point win. Worry did cut UD's deficit to nine on a jumper early in the quarter, but Weaver answered with a trey and the gap never shrunk smaller after.
