Surges in 3rd and 4th Quarters not Enough on Friday for Women's Basketball
SHERMAN, Texas – A second half push that included both of the University of Dallas women's basketball team's leads were not enough in a 64-59 setback at Austin College on Friday night. Dallas (7-7, 0-4 SCAC) has dropped its past four, including the last three in conference. The 'Roos (11-4, 3-1 SCAC) outscored UD in every quarter except the third, which is when the visitors gained its first lead of the night and largest by three (42-39).

- Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) scored a team-high 12 points and notched 11 rebounds for her 7th double-double on the campaign.
- Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) gained her first double-double of 2017 and first within the last five contests by posting 11 points and 12 boards (game-high).
- Caitlyn Worry (Lumberton, Texas) rounded out trio of UD double figure scorers with 11 points. The guard and Stoia each recorded three of the team's seven treys.
- Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) dished seven assists. The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) leader eclipsed 300 in her career and now has 306. It is her 5th performance this season to have at least seven in a game.
- Austin College was led by Caitlyn Collins with a game-high 21 points off the bench. Kendall Heitmeier notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards. Bryce Frank scored 14 points.

- Both teams made 23 field goals with Dallas being outshot 38.3 percent to 32.9 percent overall.
- The Crusaders won the rebounding battle 47-43 and had 17 assists compared to AC's 15.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Heitmeier nailed a three-pointer within the first 11 seconds out of the jump ball to give Austin College the lead for nearly 25 minutes through the contest. Frank added a layup before UD's DeCoud got the opposition on the board with 7:42 left in the opening quarter. The 'Roos boasted an edge by as many as seven (11-4) with two and a half minutes left prior to the first buzzer. However, Dallas closed the frame down three, including a buzzer beater inside the paint by Celsi Caraway (Arlington, Texas).
Prior to that moment was another scoring play for UD that cut the margin to three and marked Tonry's 300th career assist. The moment occurred with just under a minute left as the senior guard found Helen Onyenso (Oak Park, Ill.) for a made jump shot and cut things to 11-8.
A layup by Stoia cut the deficit to one in the next quarter, but Frank and Heitmeier drained a jumper and three, respectively, to extend the lead back out to six. The Crusaders started to find their stroke behind the arc with four-of-seven treys made in that 10-minute span. Stoia hit the first one, counting for the first five points towards the Navy and White. That one made it a three-point deficit, and then another trey at 5:23 before half by Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas) did the same thing making it 23-20. Two straight fouls on made baskets led to a pair of three-point possessions for AC and stretched the difference at 29-20. Worry chimed in with back-to-back treys to bring the gap for the Crusaders to four (30-26) with barely over two minutes remaining.
Austin College would be ahead 35-29 at halftime.
The first minute and a half saw the 'Roos gain their largest lead of the game by 10 (39-29) with both field goals made by Frank. Stoia drilled a three for the first UD points that quarter and sparked a 13-0 run over around the next two minutes. It helped Dallas capture its first edge of the night with Caraway capping the outburst on a jump shot to make it 42-39.
Onyenso followed Stoia's first trey with consecutive layups. Her second one included a foul that led to a three-point play as the junior hit the free throw. Stoia came up with her third trifecta of the game with 6:15 left to give Dallas its first advantage at 40-39.
Austin College tallied six-of-eight points in the remaining 3:08 of the third quarter to retake the lead. The 'Roos led by as many as seven points (51-44) with Heitmeier taking the final layup of that juncture a minute into the final stanza. Worry started a stretch of six unanswered for Dallas with DeCoud hitting the other two field goals to nip things at one (51-50). With 3:29 to go in the game, DeCoud's jumper put her squad up again 54-53. Unfortunately, AC's Collins caught fire with the next seven points. Her three-pointer started the run and marked the last lead change. After a layup with 1:49 left, Collins made both free throws to help the 'Roos finish five-of-six at the charity stripe in the last 34 seconds. UD's Worry cut the gap with her third made three-pointer that nipped things at 60-57 and 33 ticks still on the clock. However, Austin College secured the victory by making the next three points at the line and DeCoud completing the scoring overall on a layup.
