Women's Basketball rolls to 85-69 win on Saturday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team (13-8, 6-5 SCAC) posted an 85-67 victory against Colorado College (2-21, 2-10 SCAC) on Saturday night. Dallas has won three in a row, and completed a 2-0 sweep on the season campaign versus the Tigers.

Just like every game in the trio of triumphs this week, the Lady Crusaders took advantage of a thunderous first half to gain early momentum. It was a back-and-forth exchange the first four minutes of the affair before the home squad caught fire.

Senior Marleyna Bustamante (Donna, Texas) put UD on top 9-8 and her squad never trailed again the rest of the way. During a nearly four minute span, the Navy and White produced a 9-0 run capped by sophomore Lindsey Gendron's (Houston, Texas) layup after swiping her own steal.

A pair of free throws from CC's Katie Waters with 12:18 ended the scoring drought for the visitors. The Tigers' next field goal would not occur until about a minute beyond the midway portion of the stanza.

Dallas maintained the advantage and outscored the Black and Gold through intermission, 45-30.

It was much of the same in the second half as UD built its largest edge of the contest with 11:47 in the game by 28.

Bustamante led the Lady Crusaders with 16 points. Sophomore Sammi Tso (Las Vegas, Nev.) chipped in 13, and senior Brooke Hagemann notched 10. Freshman Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) matched eight points to go along with a team-best in rebounds. Senior Chelsea Cole (Mission, Texas) added nine from the bench.

Despite being outshot 52.9-percent to 43.1-percent, the Navy and White were able to win the turnover battle, 25-7. The squads were even on the glass, tallying 35 boards each, and Dallas outdid its opponents in the assist category by one, 15-14.

UD's bench also factored in a major way chipping in 31 points, while the Black and Gold received three total.

Colorado College did place a quartet of players in double-digits paced by Danielle Davis with 18 points, Korbyn Ukasick with 15, Courtney Tyus with 14, and Katie Waters with 13. Davis contributed a team-leading seven boards while Ukasick added six.
